What a fun and busy day! This morning Mme W came first thing and then we went to music. We finished up our stations and wrote our dictee. We also wrote sentences for our MIMI poster. After we ate lunch we went to the carnival and had our faces painted, our nails painted, our hands henna-ed (don't think this is the right word...) and played scooter races and parachute games. After lunch recess we lined up in the hall and took the bus to Marion Gymnastics - what a blast! Thanks to all the parents who came along and took on a station! I tried to take lots of pictures and will try to email them out to parents over the weekend. When we came back we talked about our favourite stations and read the last chapter of The Magicians Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia). I wonder what book we'll start next week...
A few reminders for next week: -Hot lunch orders are due on Monday (Pizza lunch on May 3rd) -May 3rd is also a Spirit Day - Jersey Day! -No school on May 4th (PD Day for teachers)
What a productive day! Today we started our Healthy Eating unit. We looked at le Guide alimentaire canadien (Canada Food Guide) and learned about the 4 food groups. Then we worked in groups to cut up grocery store flyers are sort the items into the food groups. We are continuing to learn about money. Today we played a SMARTBoard game to practice counting money and comparing amounts of money. We learned a little about using Francais-Anglais and English French dictionnaries today. This will help us with our writing. We looked up some English words to find the French equivalent. We'll keep practicing.
Happy Monday everyone! It's going to be a busy week...
Book swap is happening all this week. Students are invited to bring books from home to swap for new ones.
Carnival is happening on Friday at lunch, ticket are on sale Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week for 2$ each. Because our class is going to gymnastics at 12:45, I would only like each student to buy 1 ticket - this will ensure they get to use all their activities before we have to go.
A note went home today in the sac bleu about gymnastics, please sign and return. Thank you to all the parents who have offered to come along. I now have 6, which is exactly how many I need/can take on the bus. Thanks for all yoiur support!
Library is on Wednesday, bring your books if you wish to exchange them.
Scholastic orders are due tomorrow, Tuesday. Cheques payable to Scholastic Canada Ltd.
Lastly, the grade 5/6 class had leftover baked goods which they will be selling again tomorrow at recesses. This is to help support their trip to Moose Jaw.
The grade 5/6 French class is going to Moose Jaw, and to fundraise, they are having a bake sale on Monday. Students can purchase homemade baked goods at recess.
The grade 7/8 French class is doing the 30 Hour Famine this week, and they have a few fundraising activities going on. There is a penny jar in our class for students to donate to. The 7/8s will be rolling all the money the night they stay over at the school.
They are also holding a carnival on Friday at lunch time. Students can purchase tickets Tuesday, Wednesday of Thursday at lunch or recesses. A 2$ ticket gets them 4 activities/centres. They will include: real juice freezies, face painting, games, etc.
The 7/8 will also be busking outside the school Thursday, April 26th, from 5-6pm. Drop by for a listen.
Also next week, the book swap is going on. Students can go at recesses or lunch to swap books. Students can bring books from home to trade for a book buck and get a new book. Students will also be getting 2 book bucks from the school to start, so everyone will have a chance to get at least 2 new books.
What a busy day! Today we finished up our stations, helped to clean up the school yard, had our Dictee and wrote about the Earth. We also had silent reading, and played a math game to practice counting money, and finished our novel - Judy Moody Saves the World. We also got our few minutes of free time. Also, if you haven't been by our classroom lately, there have been some big changes. We no longer have desks, but tables and chairs. Our Coin de lecture has also been added to. Each student has a day that they may spend their lecture silencieuse time in the Coin de lecture.
Le Jour de la Terre is this weekend, on April 22nd. This week we have been talking about reducing, reusing and recycling, and how we can help keep our planet healthy. Tomorrow, we are going to try to have a diner sans dechets (no garbage lunch). We talked about how we can use containers and waterbottles instead of plastic wrap. We talked about choosing things that we can recycle, and composting our scraps. Also tomorrow morning, the whole school will be pitching in to clean up our school yard.
