Lost and Found

Just letting everyone know that the Lost and Found is on display again at the office. If you are in the school you may want to take a look for any items that may have gone astray over the winter. It will remain at the office during Parent Teacher Interviews as well.

Home Reading Books

I have been noticing lately that not as many Home Reading Bag books have been coming steadily to and from school. I would encourage you to continue to practice reading at home each night with your child, as this reinforces skills taught at school. Books are to be returned the last day of school each week, and new ones sent home the first day of the next week. Students are now exchanging their own books, which I hope will make reading at home easier if it's something they have chosen to read. Thank you for all your continued support at home.

March 26-30

A few reminders for this week:
-Library on Wedesday, bring your books if you wish to exchange them.
-Skipping assembly is Thursday morning at 9am - parents are welcome to come

Fun and busy day!

Today was a busy and fun day. We read an Easter story today, got our new dictee words and started this weeks stations. We read the next chapter in The Magician's Nephew. We worked as a team to solve some KenKens, and worked some more on using doubles to help us add in math. Then we got to go to a special mini-concert by the Grade 6 band - it was really neat! At the end of the day we paired up with another class and Mme W to present the stories we wrote as a class.

Long john sale

Friday there will be a long john sale. 1$ each.

Some new things in 2O...

Late last week we started over with our Quoi de neuf? This time, I have been typing what students are saying, including the questions and answers. I have been taking pictures of the students with their item, and have started a little book.
There are some new send home bags this week. They are little books in French that have a CD. Students are encouraged to listen to the story as they read along. I have told them tat if they don't know every word, that it's okay, and to look and listen for the words that they do know.
We also have a new duotang that we can work on if we are finished our work early or are the first ones in from recess and are waiting for everyone to be ready. Each day, there is a new question that has as many answers as we can think of. For example, the first question was 'You are leaving home. Your mom calls out to you "Don't forget them!" What is 'them'?'. The questions are in French, students can write or draw the answers they think of.
I would encourage students to keep reading for our Scolastic challenge. If we read 100 books, 100 books are donated to students in need.

Tuesday, March 13th

What a busy day! Today we were working on our stories, we now have new folders that will help us to keep track of all of our writing. We also worked on our St Patricks Day stations, and played a fun math game. We went out early for recess so we could take some pictures of us in action, since we are talking all about the different ways that things move. After recess we went to the art room to collect our 3D structures and then talked in our groups about why what we created was important to have in a community. Examples of things we created include fire stations, hospitals, hotels, houses, schools, sky scrapers and much more.

More 3D object fun...

Today in math we were using nets to create 3D objects - cutting and pasting to create cubes, cylinders, cones, pyramids and prisms. I showed the students a fun website from which you can print out nets and make 3D characters. We identified the 3D objects that made up some of our favourite characters.
