November 28 - December 2

I can't believe we are into December! Wow! Just a reminder about a few things going on this week.

I will be away on Wednesday, November 30.

Scholastic orders went home today. Please return by Tuesday December 6 if you wish to place an order. Cheques are payable to Scholastic Canada Ltd.

Hot lunch order forms went home today and are due back Friday, December 2 if you wish to order hot lunch for Thursday, December 8th.

Lockdown Drill

Sometime this week we will be having a lockdown drill. Today we talked about what we need to do if there is a dangerous person in the building and a lockdown is announced. We learned that we need to move to the back of the class and do a very quiet activity, whether it be reading, or colouring or sudoku. If you feel it is necessary, please have a conversation with your child around this process. Thank you for your support.

Tree of Plenty

There is a collection box for the Tree of Plenty campaign (Saskatoon Food Bank) outside the main office. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected until December 16th.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thanks to everyone for coming out Wednesday and Thursday nights this week for the interviews. I certainly appreciated each conversation and opportunity to work together to make this year great for every student. As I mentioned in the interviews, please don't feel you need to wait until a scheduled time to discuss with me any comments, concerns or questions. Call, email, drop by or send a note in the agenda if there is anything you wish me to know.
Also, if there are anymore report card envelopes, please sign and return to school.
Thanks again for everyone's support.

Santa's Workshop

Santa's Workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 7th this year. This is a mini store set up in the library where students can purchase small items (between $0.25 and $4) for family members. We will be looking for volunteers for Dec 7th to help students pick out and purchase items, as well as to wrap purchased gifts. If you are able to help out, please call or drop by the main office to let them know. Also, if you had small gift type items that you wish to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.

C'est l'hiver!

We have been learning some winter related words in French, and last week we did some winter inspired art.

Lost and Found

During this week, the Lost and Found is on display down at the office. We will take a few minutes as a class to look to see if anything is ours, and parents are encouraged to take a look when they are in the school for parent teacher interviews this week.

Scholastic Book Fair

Just a reminder that the Scholastic Book Fair is being held in the library this week. We will be going down to browse Tuesday morning, and we will be returning Wednesday morning to purchase. Students may bring their money for Wednesday morning. The book fair will be on during parent teacher interviews as well.
As a result of the book fair being in the library, we will not have our library block this week.

Note about report cards

As you read your childs report card, you will notice some differences from last year. These are mostly in the French Language Arts section. Negotiates meaning refers to students ability to understand information and ideas, both oral and written. Expresses oneself refers to students ability to generate his or her message, both orally and written.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I would also like to remind parents to call the main office to schedule a time for an interview. Interviews are Wed. Nov 23 from 4 - 8pm and Thurs. Nov. 24 from 3 - 7 pm. Once again, if these times are inconvenient, please contact me and we can arrange a time that will work.

MIMI poster #2

On Friday we started looking at a new MIMI poster. We have now each added a word and we are working on practicing these words during centre time by writing them with playdough, printing them, finding them in books and playing Pioche and Memory with them. Here is our poster and the great words we have come up with.
