Les squelettes

This week we did some Halloween art. We talked about des os, and that there are 206 in the human body. We learned that des os grow as you grow, and that the longest bone is your femur.

Halloween

Reminders for Halloween on Monday:
We will only be wearing our costumes in the afternoon. Costumes should not depict violence, gore, death.
We will be having a small party at the end of the day from 2:40 - 3:30pm.
Parents are welcome to send healthy treats, we are trying to limit the amounts of sugar and candy in school.

What a day!

What a great day we had on Friday! We worked on our Halloween stations and wrote about our citrouilles in the morning, then after recess we carved them into beautiful feux follets. Many thanks to the parents who came in to help us out with that. After lunch we went to the Fall Dance where we danced in the fog and fun lights for an hour. We are almost finished reading our last Ralph S. Mouse book, and we had music and Mme W. at the end of the day.

October 24-28th

A few things going on this week:
Scholastic was due today, but I will not be putting in my order until tomorrow night, so if there are a few late orders, not a problem, just send them tomorrow.
Hot lunch orders are due back by Friday, October 28th.
Photo order forms are due back Monday, October 31st.
Fall dance is on Friday October 28th after lunch from 12:45 - 1:45pm. Please send $1 to help cover the cost of the music.
Also on Friday we will be turning our pumpkins into jack o' lanterns. Thanks to the parents who have offered to help out. All parents are welcome to come and help out.

Crayon et croissant breakfast

Thanks to all the families who came out this morning to support the writing initiative in our school. It was wonderful to see people eating, talking and writing together. Thanks for all your support!

Fish party!

Thank you to all the parents who came out to help us celebrate all our work in getting our fish. It was so great to see you all. Some highlights from today included Pioche! (Go fish), Combien de poissons? (Guess how many fish) - our winner was kind enough to share a fish with each of us, and Mettez la nageoire sur le poisson (Pin the fin on the fish). Thanks again!

Party Invitation

In your childs sac bleu tonight you should find a fish shaped invitation. To celebrate getting our fish, we are going to have a little party Friday morning at 9am, right after the Crayon et croissant breakfast.

Education Week

This week we are celebrating Education Week. There are some neat things happening here at school.
At least once through the day, there is special writing music played over the announcments, which lets us know that it's WOTS (Write On The Spot) time. We stop whatever it is we were doing and write in our journals for 10 - 15 minutes.
All week at recesses and lunch the Book Swap is happening in the Art Room. All students received one book buck and are invited to bring other books from home to trade.
Also, on Friday, October 21st, from 8 - 9 am, there will be a Crayons and Croissants breakfast. Parents are invited to come and write with their children over breakfast. Hope to see everyone then!

They're here...

Good news! We now have a class pet, or three to be more specific. Students were quite thrilled to see our fish yesterday morning. They do not as of yet have names, though we are mulling over lots of great suggestions that came back today and we'll be voting for our favourites on Monday.

Quoi de neuf?

Each night, a student from our class is going home with a special "quoi de neuf" bag. Quoi de neuf is the French equivalent of "What's up?" The student is asked to place something special in the bag and bring it back to school the next day. They have an opportunity to tell the rest of the class about their object and why it is special/important to them. It is important for students to practice talking to their peers, and helps to build French oral language competency.

Clothing reminder

As a class we discussed the importance of dressing for the weather when going outside for recess. I know students are coming to school with jackets and boots, but are going out for recess without them, thinking it's warmer than it is. Please remind your child to dress appropriately.
Also, the classroom has been quite chilly lately, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to send your child with a sweater or sweatshirt that they may leave in their lockers. Thanks!

Picture Day!

Reminder that Picture Day is tomorrow, October 14th. Please remember to send the form with the choices for background colour and poses to school with your child. Thanks!

Les devoirs/Homework

I am sure parents were curious as to why they had homework to do this week. If your child has not already told you, we have created a tree of thanks in our classroom. Everyone's leaf with what they are thankful for written on it was added to this tree, which is now quite full.

A few things...

Home reading books - I have been reading with students this week and exchanging books. If you feel you would like more books at home to practice, please write me a note and I will send more. I have not yet had a chance to read with everyone, by the end of this week everyone will have read with me once. Also, as mentioned before, please let me know if the books are too difficult or too easy. Thanks for your patience.
Math games coming home - I have begun sending home math games. Each child will get a turn to bring home each game to play with you. We have played these games at school, so students should be able to explain the rules. Have fun!
